June 27th, 2008Are there any words that change pronunciation and/or meaning with just a change in capitalization? The only ones I know are polish/Polish.
bellosh
June 26th, 2008I was watching Raiders of the Lost Ark the other day, and was reminded of a scene that has bothered me for a long time. When they first get to Cairo, Sallah is telling Indy about the archaeologist the Nazis have hired, a man named “Bellosh“. Indy laughs and corrects him, “Bellock“. What I initially got out of this was that someone saw the name written, and read a ‘ch’ as soft instead of hard.
But, in the credits, Paul Freeman’s character is written as “Belloq”. Is that even a name? Googling for “belloq”, even excluding words like “Raiders”, “Indiana”, or “Rene”, still doesn’t return much that looks like anyone’s real name, mostly just online profiles. “Belloche”, however, does appear to actually be a real name, and it fits with Sallah’s confusion. I guess that’s what his name should be.
These are the troubles I face, day in, day out.
Black Blood of the Earth
June 25th, 2008I wish I was in a band, or had any musical knowledge at all, so I could make nothing but ridiculous rock-opera concept albums. This morning I had the idea for one based on Big Trouble in Little China. I think Black Blood of the Earth would make a good title, and the following songs seem like good ideas:
- Porkchop Express
- Double or Nothing
- It’s All in the Wrist
- Green Eyes, Very Rare (still undecided on this one)
- China is Here
- Thunder, Lightning, and Rain (Three Storms Pts I, II, and III, respectively)
- Difficulty at the Beginning
- Taming the Dragon
I haven’t watched the movie in a long time, so I’m sure there’s plenty of other good ones to be had. As for sound, I’m thinking something like Nightfall in Middle-Earth as done by Dezperadoz.
